Elven clothing and colors

Elf is in the details

Fashion is an amazing and unpredictable lady. Either she offers to visually expand women's shoulders and wear aggressive makeup, then she declares that there is nothing more feminine than flared trousers from the knee, and the next moment she draws inspiration from medieval fairy tales and fantasy novels. Have you already guessed? Today we will talk about the shi style and the fact that each of us can find elven clothes in it.

Romantic fantasy style won the hearts of millions of "elves"

Elvish style or shi style?

The style name "shi" is an abbreviation for the English "Sidhestyle", where "Sidhe" is the Old Irish name for an elf. The fantastic people of the elves received their first steps into reality a long time ago, being characters in Celtic and Germanic legends and epics. But the main impetus for the development of the fantasy genre was received in 1954 with the first edition of The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Elves of the legendary film "The Lord of the Rings"

In his rather extensive and detailed history, the fairy-tale world of Middle-earth was described in detail, the history and customs of various fairy-tale races, especially the elves, for whom the author wrote a separate language with real grammar and spelling.

This year's fashionable belt bags are great for elves' clothes.

A decade later, J.R.R. Tolkien became popular all over the world, including in the USA, where the hippie subculture was born during this period. The elves in the books found many common features that were immediately adopted by the "children of flowers".

A hood in elven clothing is almost a must

That is why, the most common image of an elf today is exactly this: environmentally friendly, denying unreasonable violence, living in harmony with himself and nature. Of course, in different sources, for example, video games, animation, books, etc. you can meet armored warrior elves or classic little pranksters from English myths, but today we will collect the image of an elf from the world of The Lord of the Rings.

Distinctive features of clothing in the elven style

What features distinguish the elven style in a sea of various modern clothes?

  1. natural materials. According to established traditions, elves live in harmony with the outside world and try not to harm nature. Therefore, it should be made exclusively from natural fabrics that do not pollute the environment during production, use and decomposition.
  2. The forms of female elven clothing are distinguished by soft lines, femininity and modesty. Men's clothing is also practical and does not stand out with an abundance of unnecessary details and decorations.
  3. The color palette of elven-style clothing usually consists of moderate natural colors: gray, white, brown, black, green, and sometimes blue. Ornaments are preferably either ethnic in nature (leather straps, baubles, wood, stones and feathers), or made of white and yellow metals.
  4. To decorate elven clothing, accessories and jewelry, natural plant motifs with smooth lines of ornaments are used. Also popular are stylized images of birds and animals alone or in combination with plants and flowers.

For men's and women's clothing in the elven style, a moderate color palette is characteristic. More often than others, shades of green and brown are used in combination with a gray base.

For example, gray pants and a shirt with brown suede boots and a green camisole or coat is a great male elf costume. Add to this or a bag-like backpack, and in front of you is a real inhabitant of a fairy forest. A female elven costume can be easily made up of a loose silhouette or a slightly fitted one, but always with a floor-length skirt or midi length.

In such clothes, elves can ride in the subway and wander along the forest paths

Elf is in the details

But in order to become a real elf, it is not enough just to put on green clothes made of natural fabric - details are important. And the details of the elven style add to its similarity with hippies.

Elvish style has a lot in common with boho clothes
In the wardrobe of elves there should be such a piece of clothing

Shea style clothing has an asymmetrical and slightly sloppy hem. The elven spirit is quite consistent with:

  • raw edges of leather clothing, as if it were not fully dressed animal skin
  • asymmetrical hem
  • wide sleeves with ties at the wrists
  • belts, laces and ties instead of buttons and zippers
  • naturalness and minimal processing of materials, as if your outfit is straight from the house of manufacturing times

Naughty miniskirt will appeal to young elves
Elves' clothing attracts with environmental friendliness and unusual cut

Elven-style clothing is becoming more popular every day, because it is exactly in line with the spirit of the times. Elven clothing is eco-friendly, stylish, inexpensive and, by the way, is in the fashion today.

ELFISH COSTUME

Ghostly, elusive, enchantingly beautiful - all these epithets in all ages people endowed elves. They were called the Star People, and elves have always had an innate sense of beauty. Which was expressed to a large extent in their manner of dressing.

I want to make a reservation right away that this article will consider the clothes of both Tolkien's Eldar (let's imagine that it was at the dawn of time) and the clothes of elves in the Celtic culture, which left its mark on myths and sagas.

Looking ahead, I note that the culture of the elven costume, apparently, is much more unchanged than the human one, and its trends have changed very little over the centuries: if in human fashion the general direction changed almost every decade, then the elven fashion had stable trends that have changed very little over the centuries. So!

What has always characterized the elven costume? Walter Evans-Wentz, a researcher of elven culture, writes that according to those who saw them, "elves were dressed just like people, only very wonderfully." So, the unusualness, the difference from the human costume, consisted primarily in the illusiveness and ephemeral nature of the fabrics themselves, which to an outside observer seemed either a shining white cloud (remember Tolkien's Galadriel and her white attire), or mother-of-pearl tints (Riannon from the legend of Powell, Prince of Dyfed).

The Scottish priest Robert Kirk in 1691, in his treatise "The Secret Union of Elves, Fauns and Fairies" noted that "the women of the Elf-folk sew, weave and embroider with unusual finesse, and is there a product (of their actions) the result of working with earthly materials, or is it an intangible interweaving of rainbows, and simply a fantastic imitation of the usual fruits of the long efforts of mortal embroiderers - all our ways and feelings are not enough to understand that. How can one not recall the elven embroiderer Firiel and her fantastic tapestries from Tolkien's The Silmarillion! Again, interesting is the fact that the elves, apparently, used transparent fabrics. Recall the description of Glorfindale: "A cloak fluttered behind the rider's back, the hood was thrown back. It seemed to Frodo that the rider was surrounded by a halo of light breaking through the robes, as if it were translucent" ("VK", S-P, 1999, p. 301). The sorceress Feidelm from Cid Cruahan is described in the same way: “A girl wove a fringe, holding in her right hand a loom made of light bronze with seven gold stripes at the ends. There was a cloak on her shoulders in green stains, fastened on her chest with a hairpin with a heavy pommel. Through everything clothes, her body shone like snow that fell in one night ... "("Kidnapping a bull from Kualnge", M, 1985, p. 127). Such descriptions of them can either speak of the fact that the elves at certain moments of life radiated a bright light ("The light of Aman saw Elu Thingol in the face of Melian"), or the subtlety and transparency of the fabrics themselves. From this we can conclude that the elves in time immemorial already knew the secrets of very fine weaving. For example, light, ghostly fabrics, such as chiffon, gauze, or nets of shiny threads, are quite acceptable.

Let's move on to Tolkien's Eldar. In general, it must be said that the Professor is very reluctant to give descriptions of elven costumes. At best, you can find out what colors one or another of his characters was wearing: for example, Yavanna Vala appeared in a green dress, and Este Vala’s clothes were gray, Manwe Sulimo, the lord of the winds, appeared in blue clothes and with a sapphire scepter, and his wife’s clothes The wards of Tintale shone with starlight; Fingolfin's daughter Aredel Ar-Feiniel was called the White Maiden of the Noldor, and always dressed in white and silver, and the notorious family of Feanor preferred red and black... logic or imagination. Thus the robes of the Valar as the Elements appear to be loose and flowing to the ground, while the Eldar would rather prefer tight-fitting robes that emphasize their perfect constitution.

And yet, there are some descriptions in Tolkien, adhering to which, one can "calculate" the appearance of his heroes. For example, on the feast of the harvest of the fruits of Yavanna, in honor of which Manwe arranged a great feast, Feanor, being an exile at that time, "did not put on festive robes - neither embroideries, nor silver, nor gold, nor precious stones were on him."

("The Silmarillion", M, 1992, p. 68) And the Silmarilli, which usually adorned his forehead (apparently, embedded in a hoop) also remained at that time in Formenos ... From this it can easily be concluded that the festive clothes of the Eldar were decorated embroidery with silver and gold threads, as well as precious stones. Or here is a description of the clothes of the beautiful Arwen Undomiel, Elrond's daughter: "The silver mesh that covered her head shone with small diamonds; the soft gray dress was not decorated with anything but a belt of silver leaves" ("VK", S-P, 1999, p. 321). Exquisite, isn't it? And again, this suggests that the elven costume had a tendency to embellishment: the belt of silver leaves at Arwen, or the belt of Golden, worn with a green dress, "rustling like a breeze in flowering river willows", "was of gold - a chain of irises with pale blue eyes of forget-me-nots" (which, apparently, was achieved using precious stones or colored enamel - "VK", p. 180).

You can also learn from the Professor that the elves loved to adorn themselves with precious stones: let us recall the same Elessar of Aragorn or Feanor and his passion to adorn his forehead with Silmarils, as already mentioned above. Also interesting is the fact that Tolkien calls the elven stone beryl, left by the road Glorfindale for Aragorn as a symbol. From the Irish sagas, another "elven stone" is also known - rock crystal. In combination with white bronze, this stone opened the way to the world of the Seeds - the Magic Hills ... A belt made in this way, along with mithril chain mail, goes to the hobbit Frodo from Uncle Bilbo Baggins: it was "made of crystal and mother-of-pearl." Elves extremely rarely tended to headdresses: judging by Tolkien's descriptions, these are at best the hoods of cloaks thrown over their hair. The elves preferred long hair, and adorned it with crowns with precious stones or silver or gold nets (see above). Elrond, for example, "dark as twilight, hair was covered by a silver hoop" ("VK", p.321).

The description of the Lorien cloaks that Galadriel gives to guests in memory of Lorien is also extremely impressive: forest dusk; but when the folds changed position, or if the lighting around changed, the fabric turned green, like leaves in the thick of a shady forest, or brown, like a compressed field by night, or dull silver, like water in starlight. At the neck, each cloak fastened with a clasp in the form of a green leaf with silver veins (again - enamel? - author).

These are beautiful clothes, - noticed the elder of the elves, - made of good homespun fabric, - after all, these cloaks were woven and sewn here in Lorien. But the clothes are elven, and you can’t take that away from her. They absorbed all the beauty of Lorien and all the shades of the forest twilight, everything that we love, because in what we create, we always put the memory of what we love. "("VK", p. 521) That is - the Eldar loved iridescent fabrics that changed color: in our time, for example, tergal possesses such properties.

And now let's move on to the Blessed Land of Eire (Ireland), in whose history the elves also left a huge mark. The descriptions of the costumes of the heroes from the people of the Tuatha de Dannan are full of gold and silver embroidery, precious stones and - which is especially surprising - at that time they were familiar with brocade! For example, here is what the hero Fer Diad remarks to the legendary Queen Medb:

You, Lady of the Cruahan Hills
Loud voice and strong will!
So bring brocade, bring silk,
Silver and gold and pearls -
I'm ready to accept everything that I promised!
("Kidnapping of the bull from Kualnge", M, 1985, p. 237)

And here is a description of the clothes of the famous hero Cuchulainn, nicknamed the “dog of Kulan”: “He is wearing a wonderful, wonderfully crafted scarlet shirt with five folds. cape, adorned with glittering gold thread." A description of his charioteer is also immediately given: “In front of him I see a charioteer, slender, with freckles on his face. on the sides in the hair of a young man. On his shoulders is a cloak with slits, and in his hands is a rod of red gold, with which he rules the horses "(saga "Wooing to Emer" - "The Abduction of the Bull from Kualnge", p. 32). I will give a few more descriptions of clothes from the Irish sagas. So, Medb herself: "A woman is tall, beautiful, long-faced, pale, with golden strands of hair. She was wearing a purple cloak, and in it a golden hairpin on her chest. A straight, pointed spear sparkled in her hand." (Ibid., p.275)

"Two men approached me, Ol and Otine, with magnificent hair, dressed in blue cloaks, with silver hairpins on their chests. Each had a hoop of the purest white silver around his neck." (p.275)

"They (two sons of Ailil and Medb) were dressed in two green cloaks, with hairpins of white silver on their chests. They were wearing two shirts of thin golden silk. Two swords with shiny hilts hung at the belt of young men. the faces of beasts of white silver." (p.277)

“Suddenly she saw something, and it was a silver ship sailing on the sea, considerable in appearance ... Eri saw a beautiful warrior on it. His dress was embroidered with gold thread, and his shirt with gold patterns. the radiance of a priceless stone emanated. Five golden hoops were around the neck of a warrior who carried a sword with a golden handle, adorned with silver and golden rivets. (saga "Battle of Mag Tuired", p. 353)

One can draw a general conclusion from all of the above: the people of the Tuatha de Dannan, judging by the costumes, did not differ much from Tolkien's Eldar: the same golden embroideries and stones, the same buckles on the chest and silver nets on the hair!

If I may, I will give a few more examples of women's costume. Here again there is the ephemerality of fabrics and the overflow of colors. Bold color combinations are also characteristic of Ireland. So, in the saga of Bekum the White-Skinned, her heroine Bekuma Kneisgel, exiled for betraying her husband from the Magic World to the lower world - to people, puts on her best green dress, and a red (!) Cloak to him, fastening all this magnificence with a brooch clasp made of white bronze. On her feet, she puts on sandals made of white bronze, decorated with rock crystal. According to legend, it was white bronze and crystal that made the representative of the Sid world on earth as if protected, and with the help of the same bronze one could always return to the Sids.

And this is a woman from Fairyland, whom the King of Ireland, Eochaid Feidlech, met at the source: "The red wavy cloak with silver fringe was on that woman, and a wonderful dress, and in the cloak there was a golden hairpin. A white shirt with a long hood was on her, smooth and strong, with patterns of red gold. On the chest and shoulders on each side the shirt was fastened with gold and silver buckles with outlandish faces of animals. The sun shone on the woman and everyone could see the glitter of gold on green silk. Two braids of the color of gold lay on her head, and in each there were four strands with beads at the ends. (The saga "The Destruction of the House of Da Derg", from "Traditions and Myths of Medieval Ireland", M, 1991, p. 102).

It is very difficult (and extremely scarce) in the legends to deal with the styles of clothing. The only thing that can be said is that loose garments made of light fabrics are often described. Here, for example, is the description of the beautiful Sir Aibormeif (Caer), who appeared to Angus, son of Dagda, High King of the Tuatha de Danann:

"One night he had a dream that he hears the rustling of silk, smells the smell of a blossoming apple tree and sees the flickering of light in the dark. Then a column of light appeared, turned into a woman. She called the prince by name and played a melody for him on the lute ..."

Angus managed to find his beloved, seen in a dream, among the hills of Gallion near the magical lake: “He noticed a silent company of fairies among the reeds, dressed in loose clothes, white as apple flowers, fluttering in the wind. The women moved in pairs, bound with silver chains. Only one of them she was alone, she was taller than the rest, and she was wearing a gold chain. ("Fairies and elves", M, 1996, p.27)

And here is a description of an elven knight named Tam Lin, who appeared before the beautiful Janet: "It was ... a tall and pale knight, wrapped in a silk cloak on a milky white horse, his forehead was decorated with a golden hoop." (ibid., p.101)

The description of a beautiful elf from the legend of a knight from Kent is also noteworthy: “A beautiful woman went out onto the road and stood in front of him. It seemed that dawn enveloped her, because her dress was the color of rose petals, and a cascade of fiery hair crowned her head ...” (Ibid.) , p.110)

So, what can you advise to help recreate the elusive-beautiful appearance of the elves? First of all - do not proceed from the notorious principle "I blinded him from what was", motivating this by the fact that "elves are still a fairy tale", and "no one knows what they really looked like". I advise you to re-read all the books about elves, including both fantasy and sagas, myths and legends, which, fortunately, have preserved for us the descriptions of this wonderful people.

It is much better to try to imagine those distant times, and, based on the principle of expediency, try to delve into the process of creating an elven costume. For example, I categorically disagree with those who use modern synthetic fabrics for the elven costume. Why? Yes, because the manufacture of such fabrics in modern conditions requires a rather large-scale production: special machines, factories, which, according to all sorts of legends, were not observed among the elves - on the contrary, it was emphasized all the time that they wove by hand. On the other hand, I do not agree with those who go to the other extreme and deliberately limit the reconstruction of the elven appearance to the same linen and wool: here, they say, are purely natural materials! Based on numerous descriptions, the elves were familiar with silk fabrics, and chiffon, and even brocade! In such a magical-biological civilization as the elves originally created it, it is quite possible to imagine silkworms and silk trees. Again, there were also brocades and gold embroidery (see above), so their use today in elven costume is quite possible.

Plastic items, such as all kinds of hooks, buttons, etc., look wildly in an elven costume. In my opinion, their metal counterparts should be preferred.

Let's try to summarize all of the above.

Men's costume: the lower shirt is made of silk or very thin linen, on it is the upper shirt with slits (according to the sagas - a dress) - it can be either made of wool (preferably soft cashmere type) or leather (elves, as they say legends, hunted), tight pants (a comparative analogue is woolen medieval chausses, and not synthetic leggings from the clothing market!) And either boots made of soft leather with pointed toes, or medieval boots made of soft leather with leather soles (remember the inaudible tread of elves !). On top of everything - a cloak with a hood (it can be either sewn to the cloak or worn separately - such as "hood".

The costume was complemented by a mass of accessories: a leather belt (whether smooth or woven from straps), on it is a handbag decorated with all sorts of ornaments (there can be both Celtic and floral ornaments). It is possible to use a flask attached to a belt: Glorfindale, for example, had a leather flask adorned with silver. Do not forget about embroideries and appliqués (the latter are best done by hand!).

Women's costume: a shirt made of silk or linen fabric (maybe made of translucent chiffon), on which is an upper dress either made of denser silk, or wool or velvet. The dress flows freely, the elves did not know any crinolines and metal frames for skirts. The top dress can be both loose and tight-fitting (wedge cut, or side lacing). The top dress, being narrow, may have slits on the sides. The costume was complemented by a cloak with a hood, which was crowned with an elegant clasp. It could be either in the center (agraph), or two-sided, connected by a chain. Both men's and women's costumes were richly decorated with embroidery with silver or gold threads, and were also complemented by accessories: for a women's costume, this is a richly decorated belt, metal or woven embroidered. The women's belt was fastened with a fibula-type clasp (or tied) in the center of the waist, its ends hanging down freely. Women's shoes are the same historical shoes, only more elegant and often made of colored leather.

The combination of colors in clothes can be ANY! But the outer clothing was often darker than the bottom. The Irish, on the other hand, preferred the most unexpected combinations of colors, for example, red and green, while Tolkien's elves preferred more silver-gray or green-blue tones.

Now - about hairstyles. If for some reason you did not bother to get a crown (elven version - with a stone in the middle of the forehead), you can put your hair under a silver net, or braid braids, decorating them with beads (see above). Men more often wore their hair loose over their shoulders, and in some cases a tuft was gathered from the front hair at the back of the head (as an example, Legolas' hairstyle in the movie "VK"). Historically, similar hairstyles were worn by the ancient Germans, back in the era of the Roman Empire.

The main thing is to remember that elves have always had a sense of beauty. And then you will get a purely elven costume.

To create a holistic image of an elf, several components must be taken into account.

1. Racial difference
2. Costume style
3. Wagering
(Behavior on the game, movement plasticity, communication style, etc.).
(plus, it is very important for the player to understand his character, his mentality, life values, etc.)

There will be separate information on the first and third points.

Costume:

The costume helps to create the mood and flavor of the chosen role. In the costume of the character, you begin to feel differently, and those around you are not familiar with the role, but those who see from the outside also perceive for the first time in the costume.

We do not have strict requirements for the style of the suit and the exact match to the colors of the House.

The costume strongly depends on the nature of the character, his position and the work he does in his life.

BUT! The suit should be aesthetic, sit well on the figure, go to the owner and please the eye.

Eldar clothing is layered and functional. Casual clothes are simple and comfortable, while festive clothes are less practical, but there are more opportunities to show imagination.

!!!Insistent wishes: The suit is two-layer. It has an undershirt and cotta for men and a dress for women.

There are differences between men's and women's costumes, and they should be obvious at the game.

Men's cotta has a length from the middle of the thigh (not shorter, but better longer) and up to the ankle. Long cottas necessarily have cuts both from the front and on the sides. A men's shirt is shorter than a cotta (length not below the knee). An integral part of the costume are trousers.

Women's dress necessarily has a long skirt.

!!! It is highly desirable to have a warm cloak or cape, so that in case of bad weather, we feel warm and comfortable, but at the same time continue to look elven.

It is advisable to have a spare suit, or at least a cotta, it can be used as a full dress or serve as a change if necessary.

Costume
The costume must be neat and not wrinkled. If it is made from wrinkled fabrics, you can hang it up when you do not need it and sprinkle it with water.

Hair
Hair must be clean and combed. A character with a "crow's nest" on his head is at least surprising. Men are no exception: if neri has long hair, they should also be taken care of.

Ears
The game will be modeling elf ears. The ears should be slightly pointed and small, and look aesthetically pleasing. These can be either purchased ears or home-made ones made from adhesive plaster, thick leather or cardboard and foundation.

Earrings
Women's ear jewelry is possible and even desirable. But if you wear earrings, they don't have to be bulky. Instead of earrings, you can use cuffs made of thin wire with pebbles, hanging pendants. it is also convenient for girls who do not wear earrings. Cuffs can be ordered in advance and even learn how to make them on the game Example, later we will give other images of cuffs.

Vegetation on the face
We strongly recommend getting rid of it for the duration of the game.

Cosmetics and perfumery
Minimum allowed. Cosmetics are applied if needed (eg foundation); shadows are allowed, but they can be just a slight shade.
Fragrances should be used with caution. The same applies to men.

Personal hygiene
Clean hands, face, and body are the key to success and confidence. The workshop group will provide players with the opportunity to take a shower.

Forbidden:
- smoking in the playing area;
- excessive consumption of alcohol (it is understood that you are not able to adequately continue the game, this is assessed by any nearest master);
- appearing on the playing area in an inappropriate costume (examples of such a costume: a hoodie thrown over jeans and sneakers, an overdress with a short sleeve or a large neckline, worn without an underdress or shirt).

There are certain stereotypes, according to which, even without ears, many easily recognize the costume as elven, and the characters as elves. Try to make your costume look exactly like an elf.

Elven costume - where to start?

As elven costumes, the prevailing stereotypes, illustrations by famous artists, films, for example, "The Lord of the Rings", early medieval stylizations are often taken as a basis.
You can start by searching for pictures on the Internet, and therefore choosing a few options you like (it is better that these are photos of costumes, and not too complicated, especially if you do not plan to order a costume from professional sewing people).

As a good guide for choosing and tailoring an elven costume, we will quote the article "Elven dress - where to start ?!" (there are mainly women's costumes, but photos, sketches and tips on sewing male elf costumes will be given separately.)

Examples from abroad:

You can also look at the website of the Berkanar studio, for example, I sewed on their dress. Berkanar studio catalog
Do not want to sew on someone else's? Well, sketches are always at our service.
These were made for the infamous "Last Union"

And these are the sketches of "Grey Silk" related to the Middle Ages:

And a reconstruction of a 12th century dress:

Do we really want our own? Not a problem! Paper is taken and a sketch is drawn.

But first, a little theory: the usual medieval dress (the early Middle Ages, of course) consisted of an upper and lower or lower and surcoat. There should still be a thin shirt under the lower one, but we are not reenactors, right? The lower dress is usually fitted, with a fairly shallow neckline, with narrow sleeves (they narrow due to lacing at the wrist) made of a denser fabric, the upper dress is looser, with such beautiful sleeves falling to the ground, with a train, a deep neckline, etc. In general, fantasy can walk. It is difficult to tell about surcoat, a little more about it below.
Did you understand the look? Now it's time for part two - the fabric!
Here it is necessary to decide for what purposes the dress is sewn. If for a game, then only (!) Natural fabrics are at your service, ideally - silk, linen and cotton (and I myself will advise “coarse silk” - in texture like linen, and in properties - like silk, but in Russia it very expensive, I did not take it there). Wool is also suitable (and it’s better not to come to the game without a warm thing, usually it is a woolen or half-woolen raincoat), velvet (expensive, but beautiful!), Part of the curtain fabrics, depending on the role - organza (for example, upper transparent sleeves ).

If you only need a dress to “light up” somewhere, and not go to the forest and run in it in the rain / scorching sun, then sew from which your hand will rise. I don’t recommend satin fabrics (slip like ordinary silk, alas, alas), chintz (hello, old curtain!), Diagonal (it frays hard).

Of course, there are more fabrics, I have listed the most popular and well-known in the role-playing and near-role environment.

So, we bought fabric (on a dress it should go from 5 meters, this must be taken into account), dragged it home, laid it out and think what to do. So, first, a mother / grandmother / sister / family friend is caught who knows how to build patterns or at least imagines how it is done. Of course, there is also an option to find the archive of the “Burda” magazine on the mezzanine, study it and, among the truly civil things, dig up almost-something-uncivil-but-turning into such. The method was tested on me with two ready-made outfits and three in development :)
Of course, there are patterns on the Internet, but they still have to be rebuilt for fabric.

Actually, a few of them:

As well as the so-called "surco". An example is Eowyn from the movie "The Lord of the Rings", one of her costumes just consisted of a bottom dress and a surcoat:

This is what the surcoat looks like with the dress:

But after you figured out the pattern, cut out the details and started stitching them, I'm no longer an assistant. Still, such things look at each specific example, and not in the text. I still won’t be able to teach you how to sew exactly on a typewriter via the Internet :)

The illustrations are honestly dragged from the Internet (except for the last two and the dress with a surcoat - mine, only mine ^^), the text is copyrighted by the author of the post (for from the head).

In order to create an authentic elven image, you need to carefully approach the choice of outfit and accessories. Elven clothing is nature illustrated on fabric. Therefore, each thing should be saturated with its natural, unique magnetism, and the attributes should discreetly emphasize the fabulous outfit.

Our online store "IndiaStyle" made sure that the presented clothes meet the necessary requirements and requests of admirers of this unique and beautiful style.

The main details of the elven style

Organic material and finish

  • In the elven wardrobe, only natural fabrics and materials are appropriate. It is better to choose linen, wool, suede, cotton, sackcloth - what we got from mother nature. This will add an image of naturalness and complete harmony with the world. Your elven clothes will breathe with you, because only such components are able to speak body language.
  • Festive clothes of elves can be embroidered with gold and silver threads, in the form of forest flowers, leaves, fruits, animals, insects. The patterns are discreet, fully conveying the natural calm and tranquility.

Natural natural tones. Interestingly, depending on belonging to a particular subrace, elves choose different colors for their outfit.

  • Sun elves prefer light clothing and cloaks the color of forest moss or lush spring foliage.
  • Representatives of the lunar dynasty - tunics of silver, gold, yellow and white shades and dark blue, almost purple cloaks.
  • The color of Wood Elf clothing depends on the season and changes with the seasons.
  • Sea elves have a minimum of clothing. All colors of the sea wave are suitable for them.

Be sure to use this information when choosing an outfit for an elven themed party or photo shoot. So, you can create a truly unique image from the amazing fantasy world.

Unique ethnic dress for elves

Indeed, the universal elven clothing that combines elements of a cloak or cape is an elven dress. Therefore, it is almost always supplemented with a hood, pockets, draperies, uneven cut, bell sleeves, lacing, asymmetry. It is a comfortable cut that makes this outfit especially convenient for exciting trips and active events. You can not do without this unique dress in everyday life. Complete the look with comfortable shoes and an elven-inspired bag with a beautiful forest-style pattern.

Elven shoes and accessories

Elven shoes are mainly made up of closed low-speed models made of specially felted wool or suede. These can be boots, short boots with an elongated “nose”, often wrapped up. To complete the transformation, use accessories in the elven style. These can be belts with ethnic ornaments, various natural jewelry in the form of bracelets, pendants around the neck, rings. It is good to use various pendants and beads made of wood.

As a result, it is impossible to separate the style of elves from others. It has hippie elements, boho notes, ethnic and elven motifs. So feel free to open the door to the fantasy world with the key of your imagination.
