Agriculture and winemaking are well developed in Provence; there are also many perfumery factories. Based on these economic realities, we can guess what the most interesting gifts can be purchased here. 1. Aromatic products are the very thing that characterizes Nice. After all, there are perfume factories very close by, where all this wealth is produced: Galimard, Fragonard and Molinar. Fragrances are sold in their usual form, like perfume in elegant miniature bottles, or eau de toilette, or aromatic oils. But there is also a new type of aromatic souvenirs from Nice - sachets, which are small exquisite bags with verbena or lavender petals. It is the delicate aroma of the meadows of Provence that will remind you of sunny Nice for a long time. 2. In Nice you can find charming silk scarves with original patterns or even hand-painted ones. This is a wonderful gift for a woman. 3. If the woman for whom you are looking for a gift is fond of home improvement and cares about the comfort in the house, then you can bring her high-quality textiles from Nice - a tablecloth, or a set of napkins, or even curtains, if you decide on such a purchase. French fabrics designed for such things are distinguished by their density, bright colors and high performance. Another gift from this area is Provencal ceramics, which are very durable and usually have an original design. 4. Do not forget to buy a set of spices, consisting of the famous Provencal herbs. Any modern housewife will be incredibly happy with such a gift. Now these spices have become fashionable, before only gourmets knew about them. 5. By the way, about gourmets, who probably are among your friends and also need gifts. You can bring them local olives, they are marinated using Provencal herbs and olive oil. These olives can be bought in local markets by weight, they are sold straight from the barrels. And if you go to Alziari or other specialty stores, then buy them packed in jars. And local olive oil can also be bought, it is thick and aromatic. 6. Sweet tooths will be delighted with vegetables or fruits in powdered sugar, exceptional jams prepared according to old French recipes. Local pastry chefs have reached such a level of skill that they even coat flowers with powdered sugar. So, you can buy candied violet or rose petals as a gift. Shopping in Nice can be a nice addition to your holiday program. Here, the level of trade matches the reputation of the place. Prices, of course, are by no means low, but for guests of Nice, money is not the main thing.

To visit Provence is a dream of my whole life, which finally came true. Provence is a magical nature, magnificent mountain landscapes, lush vineyards, air saturated with romance, amazing lavender fields, the aroma of which will stick in your memory for a long time, and of course, these are natural cosmetics of the highest French quality. It seems that God himself ordered to produce beauty products in this heavenly place.

Of course, I did not miss the opportunity to buy local beauty souvenirs for my family and friends. True, a trip to Provence is not a cheap pleasure, so I tried to save on everything and not buy too much, which I now regret. Fortunately, the products of most of the brands described below can be found in Ukraine, however, the emotions from the organic creams-balms purchased in the French hinterland are completely different. In general, if you are planning shopping in Provence, be sure to highlight a separate expense item for cosmetic purchases.

So, what brands of products should you look for in Provence? I share my experience.

Le Petit Marseillais

This brand is well known not only to the French - in Ukraine you have probably also seen “Little Marselets” gels and shampoos on store shelves, and maybe even use them. The brand is based on a special philosophy built around the French cult of natural beauty. In the production of body and hair care products, the natural gifts of Provence and ancient recipes are used, which, in combination with high technology, make it possible to create something special.

Le Petit Marseillais products are sold in many shops and supermarkets in the south of France, and the prices are quite affordable. Take it without hesitation!

The city of Grasse, located in the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, is home to the famous Fragonard perfumery museum. If you are going to have a rest, say, in Nice or Cannes - by all means set aside a day for an excursion to this perfumery paradise.

Real France does not smell like Chanel and Dior perfumes at all - it smells like Fragonard: feminine Miranda, sparkling Diamant, floral Baroque and classic Fragonard. These authentic perfumes can only be purchased in specialty shops at the Fragonard museums in Paris and Grasse. Don't miss your chance!

The Terre d "Oc brand, whose birthplace is the commune of Villeneuve (Alpes of Haute Provence), is famous for its interior perfumery. Luxurious perfumed candles, interior air fragrances, aroma extracts and sprays - all this definitely deserves attention. Not everyone knows what is under a well-known brand they also produce excellent organic cosmetics, which are based on traditional beauty recipes from different parts of the world. No dyes, chemicals or preservatives - everything is very natural and very tasty smelling. The products include both beauty products and decorative cosmetics.

I used to go to the stores of this brand in Ukraine as on an excursion - prices bite, but the presentation of boxes-tubes in the windows and their alluring smells do not leave you indifferent. After visiting the homeland of L'Occitane, I fell in love with this cosmetics completely and irrevocably.

The cosmetics factory is located in the picturesque town of Manosque, in the heart of Provence. For tourists, free one-hour excursions are held here, so that everyone can be personally convinced of the highest standards of product creation. During the excursion, we were shown production facilities, shown a short film about how local farmers grow plants and herbs, which are then used to create L'Occitane cosmetics. Then I was offered to test several creams - their weightless textures and wonderful aromas turned my head. After that, they talked about the groups of fragrances and gave them a sniff of classic examples of green, floral, fougere, etc. perfumes. And then everything was like a fog ... J At the end of the excursion, each participant was presented with a souvenir - “Shea” lip balm-stick (which, by the way, costs 195 UAH).

Next to the factory is the L'Occitane Cosmetics Museum, where you can learn more than forty years of the brand's history. Interestingly, there are screens throughout the museum: you press a button - you watch a movie and listen to interviews with people involved in the creation and development of the brand.

There is also a store where, impressed by what you see, you want to buy everything at once. However, I was very persistent and took only three products: Cherry Blossom lip balm (about 7 euros), soap from the same series (5 euros), and also Verbena hand cream (7 euros). In addition, I received a couple of samples.

The area itself, where the factory, museum and L'Occitane store are located, looks very nice. All around there are herbs and plants associated with the brand: lavender, immortelle, olive trees and others. Finally, I took a few photos: I want to keep this picturesque place in my memory forever!

Handmade cosmetics by local craftsmen

When traveling around Provence, be sure to stop at the charming little villages and drop by the local shops. There you will find excellent natural soaps and other authentic cosmetics.

I came across one such shop in Castellane, where I bought lavender soap for 3 euros (or I could have taken a whole box of five different types for 11).

Nice is the capital of the French Riviera, a luxury resort at the mouth of the Peillon River near the Bay of Angels. Nice holds the palm of one of the most "bohemian" resorts in France for the third century. Picasso and Modigliani came here, Hollywood stars rested here, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna spent all winters on the Cote d'Azur, away from the harsh Russian frosts ...

Nice is an expensive and superbly developed resort. People come here to walk along the Promenade des Anglais, spend money in luxury boutiques on Avenue Jean-Medesine and ride a snow-white yacht, enjoying the views of the Cote d'Azur.

Climate and weather

Nice is equally good both in winter and in summer - the climate here is mild, Mediterranean. The city hides from the wind behind the Alpine mountains. It is hot in summer - the air temperature does not drop below 28 ° C, but the fresh breeze makes it easy to endure. The sun shines almost all year round, the rains begin in late autumn - at the end of October. The sea water is ideally warmed up in August and September, so the “velvet season” is often chosen for a vacation in Nice.

Beaches

Nice beaches are pebbly. One of the most famous is located on the Promenade des Anglais. This beach is free, there are showers. However, the sea here is muddy and muddy due to the proximity of the port. For swimming in Nice, tourists choose private beaches located east of the city center.

You can swim in Nice already in May, but ideally the water warms up in July - up to + 26 ° С. With children they go to Rul Beach, where there is a pool with sea water, or to HI Beach with sandpits, slides and animators in the children's area. Private beaches are paid - you can rent sun loungers, umbrellas, beach towels.

sights

In Nice, you should definitely stroll along the magnificent Promenade des Anglais - this promenade is extremely popular with both tourists and locals. During your walk, be sure to stop to see the old hotel "Negresco", built in 1913 and taking within its walls the color of the European aristocracy. You can even drop by the Royal Salon and have a glass of champagne while admiring the chandelier donated to the hotel by Nicholas II.

In Place Rosetti, take a photo of the Saint-Reparat Cathedral, see the chapels of Misericord, Guezu and St. Augustine, sit at a table in a street cafe on Boulevard Saleya or Place Pierre-Gaultier and Charles-Felix.

The famous Cours Saleya flower market is another must-see spot in Nice. Fresh bouquets, flower pots, souvenirs, vegetables and fruits are crowded on the shelves - it is so nice to go out early in the morning and choose a juicy set for breakfast from the greengrocers! On Mondays, there is a flea market here, where, with proper skill, you can discover real treasures - old postcards, dishes, vintage jewelry.

Museum lovers are advised to look into the Marc Chagall Museum - the artist has lived in Nice for many years, and the museum has an exhibition with several hundred of his works. Another artist whose biography is closely related to Nice is Henri Matisse. The Matisse Museum is housed in an old 17th century villa.

In gardens and parks, you can admire fountains and sculptures, in the port you can look at luxurious snow-white yachts. On the Simeiz hill there is an archaeological museum and preserved Roman baths and an amphitheater.

Cuisine and restaurants

Nice is a seaside town, so there are many fish restaurants here. You should definitely try the famous nicoise salad with tuna and beans, fish soup, chicken with eggplant, stewed with wine and spices. Visitors are treated to local basilic vodka.

In addition to French cuisine, there are many establishments in Nice that serve Italian dishes - pizza, lasagna, pasta. For dessert, we recommend ordering a sweet savoy cabbage pie.

What to bring

Wine made from rose petals is often brought from Nice - this is a very "French" souvenir, perfect for desserts. Those with a sweet tooth will love candied fruits and flowers - in Nice, rose and violet petals are coated with sugar glaze and packed in small graceful boxes. A popular purchase is jam made from fruits grown in the gardens of the Cote d'Azur.

Sachet with lavender will be a pleasant memory of Nice. Provence is famous for its lavender fields, so you won't have to look for a souvenir for a long time. Canvas bags with lavender and verbena not only perfectly scent your wardrobe or room, but also keep clothes from moths.
