The property of the spouses may consist of items intended for trade in a store, for everyday life, or common things. An asset can be a whole house, a shop, or just a small room in a house. If you get married and neither you nor your spouse have real estate - both of you will be homeless and your spouse will show you where you can see him (her) (in or near a permanent place). If your spouse was originally a merchant, he/she may lose the opportunity to trade when they move to you from their store. If your spouse stays where they used to live, he/she will lead a normal life, visit different places and do different things. If your spouse comes to live with you, he/she will not leave the house unless he/she is your companion and you instruct him/her to follow you.

If you propose to someone, you can sleep in their beds and get some inexpensive items in their homes without stealing them. However, their more expensive items will not be available without being stolen, and your expensive items that you put in their chests will become their property. After getting married, taking items belonging to your spouse and items stacked in their chests is no longer considered stealing. If their house is initially locked, you must first settle in it to get the key.

Your spouse may only own a bed. For example, Dravinia the Carver lives in the Wood Lace Tavern, and she only has a bed in a small room that she shares with the other characters who live in it before and after you marry her. None of the chests and items in this small room belong to her. These two tables give detailed information about possible spouses, including their race, location, what houses they own (if any), companionship, whether they own a business, whether they can teach, and special tasks to complete in order to get married. .   • There are no Khajiit or Bosmer characters to marry (without using the console command on PC).
  • If your spouse dies, you will not be able to marry again.
  • Maramal will ask you to come back "tomorrow at dawn". This is technically incorrect; if you ask him to perform a ceremony at 1 a.m., he will perform it at 11 p.m. on the same day. Just try waiting a few hours (T) for Maramal to start his wedding dialogue.
  • If you don't know what property your fiancé/bride owns before the wedding, you can follow him/her and find the place where he/she usually stays overnight. Any unowned bed, marked with plain text color, located in public places (especially outside the city) belongs to your (her) spouse (s), but is not his (her) property. Also, be aware that if your spouse shares property with someone else, some items and beds may be marked in red text, even if you are already married.
  • Marriage is best enjoyed as a quest started with Maramal in the Temple of Mary in Riften. To start the quest, ask Maramal "I want to know more about the Temple of Mary", then "I could get married in the temple" and after "No, not really".
  • If you kill a merchant with whom your future spouse shares his business so that in the future he (a) trades himself, he (a) may not give you a marriage dialogue to start wedding. It happens to Camille Valeria.
  • Once you have started the quest, it is advisable not to remove Mary's amulet until the end of the marriage ceremony. If for some reason you remove the amulet before the wedding, the ceremony will be suspended, you will have to ask for forgiveness from your fiancé/bride and listen to complaints from Maramal. Bugs

  • In the list of possible marriage options, there were many mentions of some NPCs (Lydia was the most common example) as not having the dialogue required for marriage. This can be fixed using the addfac 19809 1 console command, which adds them to the PotentialMarriageFaction.
  • If at least one of your companions is killed before you marry, his dead body may appear in the temple at the ceremony and the wedding will fail. The priests will ask you to leave, and the bride or groom will be angry. You can make amends by leaving them to cool down for a couple of hours and then go apologize to Maramal and your potential spouse. Then the wedding will take place the next day at the same time. To avoid failing the ceremony a second time, drag (or push with the Merciless Force) the corpse outside the temple door. If you are a PC user, you can use the console command to resurrect a dead companion and then apologize to them to avoid problems.
    • Xbox: This bug occurs with many (almost all?) potential spouses (PC also confirmed).
    • This bug will reportedly be fixed in the v1.2 patch.
  • Please note that the Radiant AI system (interpersonal interaction simulator) may not give the necessary cue for marriage, depending on the progress of the game (if, for example, you go against the relatives of your chosen one (s)) or disable the location of the quest for a certain character. If you want to marry a certain character, it's best to visit him at the beginning of the game.
    • Xbox: Well-Knows-The Swamps has a bad habit of not giving the location of his quest. Not only that, he can disappear (disappear altogether, rather than hanging out in one of his usual places where he likes to hang out), often without showing up until you marry someone else. A possible solution to this problem is to immediately head to Windhelm as soon as the tutorial is completed. (The wagon outside of Whiterun is your best bet.) He always seems to offer his uncharted quest at this point in the game.
    • This can also be caused by the Radiant AI blocking quest hodgepodge. Thus, if the player does not take on some other side quest, Well-Knows-The-Marshes must offer their own task.
  • In most cases, the newly-married spouse disappears after leaving the temple of Mara, while you finish the dialogue with Maramal and rush after him (her) before he (a) reaches the door. If this happened, you will find him (her) in the place where you met him (her) for the first time; you will be able to talk with your spouse about where you both will live. In some cases, it seems that the spouse has disappeared from the game completely.   • Xbox: If you ask your spouse to move in with you, any item in the house will disappear and go into his/her inventory. You will have to buy them from him (her) in order to return them. Beware of extortionists when asking them to live with you.
    • It seems that Eloquence does not work in dialogue with your spouse. You will have to buy your own things from him (her) at full price if you want to return them to yourself.

There are several ways to get Mara's amulet. The easiest one is to go to Riften's Temple of Mara and buy one from Maramal for 200 Septims. However, these amulets can be found randomly while traveling or sold by merchants. One of the amulets can be obtained during the "Book of Love" quest, and it will be given to the main character at the end of the task.

The protagonist will not be able to propose marriage to anyone without first talking to Maramal, even if he already has Mary's amulet. Maramal can be found in the temple of Mary, but the first meeting with him will take place in the tavern "Bee and Sting".

When the main character speaks to a character available for marriage, he may notice the amulet. In order for this to become possible, it is necessary to complete some task for this character. If a character is available for marriage, the Radiant AI system may not allow marriage with him, even if his task was completed. Therefore, just in case, it is better to choose a “reserve” candidate.

You can ask the candidate: “Do you like me?”. He / she will answer, but they will also be interested in the opinion of the protagonist. If the protagonist agrees, preparations for marriage can begin. To do this, you will have to return to the temple of Mary and organize a ceremony by talking with Maramal again. After waiting 24 hours, you can leave the temple, and then wait until the entry "Show up to your own wedding" appears in the quest log. Now you can return to the temple, and the wedding will begin.

The potential spouse of the protagonist will answer: “Yes. Now and Forever". Maramal will ask the same question to the protagonist, to which you can choose one of two answers:

"Yes. Now and forever” - Maramal will continue the ceremony with the words: “By the power given to me by Mara, the goddess of love, I declare you spouses. I present to you both these rings, blessed by the grace of Mara. May they keep you in your life together.”
"Stop the wedding! I don't want to get married!" - Maramal will be surprised and say: “Do you want to leave your partner? Get out of the temple." If you try to talk to a rejected candidate, he or she will only say: "Get out of my sight" or some other remark in the same vein. Temple priests and ceremony guests will be much more concise, simply saying "Get out of here" or "Go away."
If the ceremony is completed as expected, the guests will congratulate the newlyweds. Before leaving the temple, the hero must talk with his spouse, discussing the conditions for living together. The second half will talk about it herself, saying something like: “Finally we are married. Perhaps we should decide where to live? If you want, we can stay with me." You have to make a choice between the protagonist's house and the home of the newly-made spouse. This is not important, because in the future it will be possible to move to another house.

After the wedding, the protagonist's spouse opens a trading shop. Now the main character can ask the other half about the amount that they managed to gain by trading. The next day, it will be possible to receive a daily income of 100 septims. In addition, if the spouse has moved to the main character's house, then there will always be a merchant at hand with whom you can trade various goods. However, trading with your own soulmate does not affect the daily income - it will still be 100 coins.

If the protagonist abandoned the potential spouse at the altar, then he or she can be spoken to later at their usual place of residence. When meeting, he/she will express extreme indignation at the behavior of the protagonist, uttering a phrase like “What do you want? There is nothing to talk about!" There are two responses to this response:

“It was a mistake. Can we start all over again?" - the abandoned candidate will forgive the hero, giving him a second chance to marry. After that, you need to talk again with Maramal, who will forgive the main character and agree to a second ceremony. You can repeat the whole process several times until you are sure that you made the right choice, or you can choose the option below.
"What makes you think that I love you?" - after these words, the protagonist will no longer be able to marry this character. Also, the abandoned candidate will begin to despise the main character. However, the possibility of marriage with another suitable character remains.

However, expensive items cannot be taken - this will already be considered a crime. After marriage, you can freely take even quite expensive things from the house of your spouse. The main thing is that the item costs less than 500 septims. If the spouse lives in the main character's house, then his/her own dwelling is usually closed. To get there, you need to move there and get a key.
